Maskeraid virtual 5k: the story of our first fundraising event

Updated: Dec 19, 2020

The Maskeraid Virtual 5K was hosted by MDMASKerAID to raise money and spread awareness about the ongoing pandemic. Funds raised from the race are being used to advance our efforts of making and delivering free, and reusable masks to hospitals in DC and the surrounding areas.

In our first annual 5K, we have seventeen amazing participants who all helped contribute to our total fundraising amount of $397! Participants were able to run the race at their own pace while staying a safe distance from others. Many chose to run, walk or bike 3.1 miles while logging the activity on their personal device. A special shoutout to our first-place winner, Jared, for running his 5k in 21:38 minutes, at an average pace of 6:58- wow!

Along with participating in the event, there was also an option to sponsor a runner, where family or friends could donate a contribution to our mission. We appreciate everyone who was able to donate or participate in the first 5K and because of your generosity and engagement we are able to continue our grassroots effort in providing masks to the DC area! Our next fundraising event will be a virtual yoga session on December 6th at 3 pm! We hope you all can join. Details for the event are listed on MDMASKerAID’s Facebook and Instagram!
